I can email one also if requested. Home page: Keagan was an adoption return to a shelter south of us by about an hour here in NE Iowa. He is now a Waverly Pet Rescue dog. He is up to date on shots, tested heartworm negative, dewormed, and neutered. He is living in a foster home.
Keagan is a 1 year old Shepherd mix. His owner returned him because her neighbors were getting angry that he barks at squirrels whenever he is let outside. He originally came to our shelter as a stray when he was about 3 months old and stayed at the shelter for another 4 months or so until he was adopted. He is a nice dog, kind of shy, but warms up quickly. He is pretty afraid of kids, we think he might have been knocked around by a kid when he was younger. He has epilepsy. It is well controlled with phenobarbital, and his adopter just recently took him in to the vet to get his med levels checked and the dose adjusted. He started having seizures when he was still with us at the shelter before. He didn?t have them very often and they were ocular seizures where he would stand in one spot and either stare into space or bob his head for about 5 minutes or so.
He is about the size of a lab. I?d guess around 50-60 lbs. He is a sweet dog but shy at first. He doesn?t take too long to get warmed up though. According to his surrender form, he is initially afraid of new people that come into the home but the adopter says he is getting better at trusting people quicker. He is housebroken and crate trained. When he was at the shelter the first time, he was very afraid of children and wanted nothing to do with them. The adopter says she?s been working with him on this and he is slowly getting better with this. The adopter wrote down that his two ?bad habits? are barking when left alone outside and he will sometimes sneak off and get into the trash if she isn?t watching him. He has never bitten any person or other animal.
We feel there is the right person out there looking to help a dog just like Keagan. He is a good boy and deserves a lot of love.
12/5/12 UPDATE: He has came a long way since coming here, he still is a bit scared at first but warms up quickly. Kids he wont hurt him but will not let any
kid under the age of 12 come near him, so I think a non kid home or
older kid home would be good for him. Other dogs he is great with, he
has gotten to be a social butterfly with dogs. He is very gentle is not
food or toy aggressive.
1/30/13 UPDATE: I talked to Logan Vet about him and we feel he has been misdiagnosed, he still knows what is happening when his head starts to shake. I give him something sweet and he comes out of it. Logan Vet said to take him
off meds and see what happens and he has not had as many episodes. We
believe it could be a low sugar problem. Also he is
getting so much better with new people approaching him and with kids
being around.
2/19/13 UPDATE: Keagan has came a long way since he first got here, he was not social
with dogs or people. He is fantastic with other dogs and I actually use
him to temperament new dogs coming in for boarding or daycare, we call
him our super ninja. He has gotten a bit better with people, but still
is not sure about new people he will meet you on his time and decide
whether your someone he wants to get to know. Once he does warm up to
someone he will give you his world, he is super sweet and a very good at
cuddling which he loves to do. He still is very unsure of kids but has
gotten to tolerate them being around. I feel if put into a home setting
he would warm up and be a great best friend to anyone. He is house broke
and also he is not food or toy aggressive toward people. Food he needs
to have his own space if other dogs are in the home. He has not had any
episodes and no longer takes medication. If his head does start to shake
we give him cookies and get him some more food and he comes right out of
it. He does eat hard food but in order to get him to eat we mix soft
food in
